Tudom, furán hangzik, de a kis cornwalli majommenedék sorsát a szívemen viselem. A Technorati-n böngészve újabb hírre lettem figyelmes.

More money to rehome monkeys in Cornish sanctuary
02 June 2006, 10:16Work is getting started on a new enclosure at Cornwall’s Monkey Sanctuary. The centre in Looe has been given a fourteen thousand pound grant for the expansion project to help provide a safe haven for more of the creatures who’ve been kept as pets.
All this activity is rather intriguing for the curious capuchin monkeys. The sanctuary looks after nine of these animals who’ve been rescued from the pet trade. The new outdoor and indoor enclosures can take six more capuchins, extra capacity they desperately need.
Keri Cairns, Keeper:”There are very few places in this country that will take rescue monkeys. It’s a very difficult thing to take a monkey that’s lived in isolation all it’s life and resocialise them or just give them any quality of life really.”
It’s estimated around three thousand monkeys are kept as pets in the UK, many without the proper licences. The sanctuary has joined forces with the International Fund for Animal Welfare to campaign for a change in the law and an end to the trade in primates as pets. At least with this centre they can live out their lives with the proper care. Rachel Ellis in Looe for Westcountry News.
